Supporting efforts to keep pets and people together

 Banfield Charitable Trust provides grants to nonprofit organizations and nonprofit hospices to support their efforts to keep pets and people together.

 

Pet advocacy grants support nonprofit organization programs that are designed to keep pets with their families. Contact Darlene Schwartz at darlene.schwartz@banfieldcharitabletrust.org or 503.922.5801 with questions. We strongly encourage nonprofits to contact us to discuss eligibility requirements before applying. 

Pet food distribution program and companion horse feeding grants provide financial support to both nonprofit organizations and Meals On Wheels Associations of America (MOWAA) members to fund expenses associated with starting or maintaining a pet food distribution program for clients.  Contact: Darlene Schwartz at darlene.schwartz@banfieldcharitabletrust.org or 503.922.5801 with questions. 

Pet Peace of Mind^® grants offer hospices a program model for a hospice patient/pet support program that includes funding to deliver in-home volunteer pet care services, pet food and veterinary/grooming services for patients who are unable to maintain routine health care and nutrition for their pets because of financial and/or physical disability.  Contact Dr. Delana Taylor McNac at delana.taylor-mcnac@banfieldcharitabletrust.org or 503-922-5683 with questions. GRANT ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

Applicants for a pet advocacy grant or a pet food distribution grant must meet the following criteria to be considered for a grant:

A nonprofit organization with proof of 501(c)3 status

Must be seeking funding for a program that is keeping pets in their current homes

Applicants for a Pet Peace of Mind program grant must be nonprofit hospices. For-profit hospices and for-profit hospices with non-profit foundations are not eligible for the program. Learn more about the program in this FAQ.

Programs we do NOT fund		Programs we do fund
Spay, neuter or adoption programs		Programs that provide a direct solution to avoid surrender or separation of companion pets (including horses) from families.
General humane education programs		Basic veterinary care for financially-challenged companion pet owners and families.
Behavioral modification programs for pets awaiting adoption		Programs that help the homeless, seriously ill, homebound, or disabled care for or keep their pets.
General operating expenses		Education programs that directly relate to keeping companion pets and their people together.
Deficit reduction or general overhead expenses		Behavior modification programs to correct inappropriate companion pet behaviors so that pets may remain in the home.
Fundraising campaigns including special events		Disaster preparedness and response (See special requirements in section F of the application)
Grants to individuals or to support business enterprises		Programs that provide pet food as part of an overall assistance program.
International programs
Construction costs for new buildings or remodels

       

APPLICATIONS

Before you begin the application process, be sure you have carefully read information about the grant program you are applying for and clearly understand the eligibility requirements.

The Pet Peace of Mind grant application is not available for download. Please contact Dr. Delana Taylor-McNac directly to obtain an overview of the program and additional information about becoming a hospice partner.

GRANT DEADLINES

Pet advocacy grant applications are reviewed on an on-going basis while funding decisions are made four times a year. Pet advocacy grant applications must be mailed (no emailed applications or supporting materials allowed). Grant application deadlines are:

January 31  (funding made in March)
April 30 (funding made in June)
July 31 (funding made in September)
October 31 (funding made in December) 

Pet food distribution program grant applications for nonprofit organizations are are reviewed on an on-going basis.
